Sanford POWER is the regional leader in offering individualized programming for athlete development, sport performance training and injury prevention. Since 1999 we have provided the most comprehensive holistic programming for athletes of all ages and skill levels. We integrate the latest in technology and scientific research combined with expert coaching to improve mobility, strength, speed, agility and explosive power. Our Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialists are the most experienced staff in the region. Along with our orthopedic physicians, PT’s, ATC’s, Sports Nutritionist and the Sanford Sports Science Institute (SSSI), we offer the most integrated and comprehensive sports performance programming available.
Offered three times per year the POWER Internship Program is aligned with traditional college semesters. We offer Fall, Winter/Spring and Summer semester long internship opportunities. Each semester option lasting between 12-15 weeks. The internships are done for college credit and are paid. Total hours worked can vary depending on the college credit being earned and the POWER location the internship is being done at. These details can be discussed during the initial phone or in-person interview at the POWER location chosen.
Expectations for the internship are for the student to gain valuable hands-on experience working with POWER Strength Coaches to design, develop and implement sports performance programming for a wide variety of athletes in all sports from youth to professional. The opportunity to learn from multiple Sanford professionals each day makes this experience unique and extremely valuable as students begin to make decisions on specifics of their career path. The timeline for each semester are approximately January 2–May 1 (Winter/Spring), June 1–August 15 (Summer), and September 1–December 15 (Fall). These dates may vary slightly between POWER locations and specific college credit requirements for each student. Preference will be given to applicants in their junior or senior year of college.
The students applying for the POWER Internship Program should demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in the area of Exercise Science or Kinesiology with an interest and focus in Strength and Conditioning, Sports Performance and Coaching. Candidates should be in either their junior or senior year at an accredited college or university. The internship should be for college credit, but consideration will be given to those applying for volunteer status with an appropriate degree and related job experience.
Applications are accepted at any time during the year. Students should direct inquires to the POWER location they plan to complete the internship at. Internship opportunities are limited at each location and spots fill up quickly. Applicants are encouraged to apply at least 3-4 months prior to the anticipated start of the internship they are considering. The application deadlines are: Sept. 30 (Winter/Spring), Feb. 15 (Summer) and May 30 (Fall).
