The Sanford POWER Golf Academy is the most comprehensive golf program in the region, combining golf skills training with sports science, physical therapy, and strength and conditioning. Our team of experts helps golfers move better, feel better and play better.
Located at Great Shots, the Sanford POWER Golf Academy has four climate-controlled bays are reserved exclusively for our members to master the fundamentals and take your game to the next level.
Located inside the newly renovated Austad’s Golf (4474 23rd Ave. S.).

Sanford Golf Academy Staff
Sam Vosler, in addition to previously serving as one of the lead instructors at the Sanford POWER Golf Academy, spent three years coaching at the University of Sioux Falls where in 2018 he was promoted to director of the men’s and women’s golf programs. He also coached at the University of Colorado Springs-Colorado, co-managed an indoor golf training facility and worked with the Hank Haney International Golf Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Vosler attended the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and graduated with a degree in PGA Golf Management/Service Management. He has been a PGA-certified instructor for five years and won the SCCC Pro-Am on the Dakotas Tour in 2009.
Josh Baldus is joining the Sanford POWER Golf Academy team after completing an eight-month internship with us. Originally from Fairmont, Minnesota, Josh went to Fairmont Junior/Senior High School where he played golf, soccer and basketball. He played college-level golf at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. Josh graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska, with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) golf management and a minor in business. He is a member of the PGA of America. In addition to supporting our coaching programs, Josh will be the lead coach for the Sanford POWER Golf Academy Team 605 Farm Team.
Sara Detlefsen is one of our new golf instructors at the Sanford POWER Golf Academy. She is a Class A member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professionals division. In college, she played Division I golf at the Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. She graduated in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and received her master’s degree in public administration in 2016. Sara has been a member of the LPGA’s Symetra Tour since 2016 and played in the 2016 LPGA Marathon Classic in Toledo, Ohio. Her instructional career began on a volunteer basis with the First Tee of the Twin Cities in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2011. Since then, her teaching highlights include being invited to teach with the LPGA’s Leadership Academy (2018, 2019) and Girls Golf Academy (2018, 2019, 2020) and the ANNIKA Foundation’s Share My Passion Clinic (2018). As an LPGA member, Sara will bring new programming to the Sanford POWER Golf Academy emphasizing girls golf and LPGA initiatives.
Heppner, a native of Crookston, Minn., earned over 10 top-five finishes and Academic All-American honors in his four year golfing career at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Following his collegiate playing career, Heppner stayed in the Golden Eagles golf program, spending five years as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach. Heppner has also worked alongside multiple touring professionals while in Arizona at Whisper Rock Golf Club. Most recently, he served as senior golf pro at Five Iron Golf in Chicago, Ill.
